Laurel: In times of old
it was customary for a master in an art to take
apprentices, that the secrets of his craft would not die out.
To this end I have searched out one both willing and fitting to
receive my skills. Call forth N.
Herald: Lord (Lady) N., attend Master N.
Laurel: Do you, N.,
swear to learn the ways of my craft, to attend such
mysteries as I shall show you, and then in time to pass
on these
secrets to those worthy to receive them?
Do you also swear
to stand by me and my household, who now become
as your brothers, sharing hardship and plenty, strife
and peace?
When the apprentice answers yes to both these questions,
the Laurel continues:
Laurel: I swear to you, N.,
to instruct you in the mysteries of my art,
guiding you and sharing with you all that I know.
I also swear to
provide for you in scarcity, share with you in
prosperity, and take
your part against those who would stand against
you. Let all
people witness our oaths and judge our honour by
how well we keep them.
Bear this belt, that it may signify your position
to all, and be a
constant reminder to you of your pledge. |
